Shelly Kellogg started working in a pet kennel in Charleston, WV. Right after graduation (1985) she came to Tampa Bay and attended The Florida School of Dog Grooming. Right out of grooming school, she landed a job at the Doghouse Pet Motel grooming and assisting the kennel for the next 3 years. Shelly, for a hobby, trained her own pets in obedience school and even began training some of the classes at Canine College here in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Having a desire to continue her work with dogs and cats and learn more, she started working for The Animal Clinic for the next 6 years. Under the guidance of Dr. Burroughs DVM, she became a veterinarian assistant. Still dreaming of owning her own facility, Shelly approached The Doghouse Pet Motel owners to purchase the property where she had worked the past 9 years. Having known Shelly for the past 9 years, the owners agreed to finance the business and property.
With help from Shelly’s husband, Jeff, the two took over the Doghouse Pet Motel on November 1st, 1994. With Jeff’s managing skills and Shelly’s knowledge of the pet industry, Kellogg’s Kennel was born. Jeff and Shelly were married in 1991 and have 3 children that have grown up in the kennel environment. The children’s knowledge of the kennel has really helped in the day-to-day chores of the kennel. Although our guests come and go we have enjoyed all the shapes, sizes, and personalities of the pets that come and see us.
"The years can validate our desire to work for our guests."
